The Scam
- A caller identifies themselves as “Evelyn” (or another name) from a fictitious company, often referred to as “Lending Union”.
- The scammer may leave voice messages that convey a sense of urgency, stating that your loan is almost approved and she only needs to confirm a few details.
- The scammer asks for sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers or bank account details.
What to Do
- Hang up. Never share personal information with unsolicited callers.
- Do not call back if they left a message. It just confirms the validity of your number and could result in redoubled efforts to scam you.
- Call your bank or financial institution directly to verify any real loan inquiries when in doubt.
